Gallstones are deposits of digestive fluid that harden and form stones in the gallbladder. It is a pear-shaped organ situated on the right side of the abdomen, beneath the liver.
SYMPTOMS:   Usually Gall stones cause no symptoms, but if the gall stone obstructs the cystic duct it may cause the following:
?    Nausea or vomiting
?    Pain in the back between the shoulder blades
?     Sudden intensifying pain the upper right side of the abdomen (RUQ)
?    Pain in the right shoulder
The pain usually lasts from a few minutes to hours, but it might be severe.
CAUSES: The exact causes are not very clear, but it usually occurs due to chemical imbalance of bile inside the gall bladder. These might be the following reasons:
?    Excess level of Cholesterol in bile, will lead to yellow stones. This happens when your liver synthesizes more cholesterol than normal.
?    Improper emptying function of Gall Bladder: If it fails to empty, the concentration of bile increases, causing Gall stones. Commonly seen in females (4 F- fatty fertile female of forty )
?    Increased concentration of  Bilirubin in Bile. Pigment gall stones are formed (Hereditary spherocytosis).

DIAGNOSIS & TESTS:
It is done by the following ways:
?    Physical examination: The doctor primarily does this by physical examination and symptoms.
Following TESTS are done:
?    Abdominal Ultrasound
?    Abdominal CT Scan
?    Blood test
?    Gall Bladder radionuclide scan
MANAGEMENT & TREATMENT:
The treatment is done on the basis of the symptoms and the results of diagnostic testing.
Some of the Gall stones are silent stones and do not cause any pain to the patient, hence should be left alone.
In case you have symptoms of pain, you need treatment.
The most common treatment done is the removal of Gall Bladder called CHOLECYSTECTOMY.
Cholecystectomy occurs in two ways:
?    Laparoscopic cholecystectomy
?    Open cholecystectomy
Majorly (in 90% cases) it is now performed with Laproscope and is termed as LAPAROSCOPIC CHOLECYSTECTOMY.

WHAT IS LAPAROSCOPIC CHOLECYSTECTOMY?
Surgical removal of Gall Bladder with small incisions and a laparoscope.
?    Benefits of LAPAROSCOPIC CHOLECYSTECTOMY:
?    Complications are less
?    Less pain
?    Quick Recovery
?    Smaller wounds and scars.
?    RECOVERY TIME: In 99% of cases, we almost discharge the patient on the next day of surgery. If there is no complication and the patient seems fully fit and can walk, eat, and drink on their own.
?    RISKS OF SURGERY:  The general risks of surgery include:
?    Anaesthesia reaction,
?    Bleeding,
?    Blood Clot
?    Pneumonia

WHEN SHOULD YOU CALL THE DOCTOR?
If you are having abdominal pain along with fever, nausea and vomiting and is also increasing, you should definitely visit the doctor.
The doctor will evaluate the symptoms and suggest further.

PREVENTION:
Gall stones cannot be prevented. The risk factors can still be decreased by following a healthy lifestyle and a strict diet. Following may help you to prevent Gall Stones:
?    Add fish in diet
?    Decreased consumption of meat
?    Adding more grains
?    Limited amount oil fried food
?    Add fresh fruits and vegetables

COST ESTIMATE:

?    Technology used
?    Condition of patient and severeness of the case.
?    Any other pre-existing medical condition
?    Any other medical complications like diabetes, anaemia, thyroid, obesity, etc.
The best cost estimation can be provided only after clinical consultation done by the doctor.
